CSX Index open May with a 1.39% drop to 495.9 points The CSX index decreased by 1.39% to 495.9 points on May 2, 2023. The stock prices of PWSA, PPAP, PPSP, PAS, and ABC are each down by 0.77%, 1.35%, 0.83%, 0.74%, and 1.75%, respectively. On the other hand, GTI and PEPC shares show no movement. In 2022, Cambodia and Japan will do bilateral trade of $1.948 billion. In 2022, $1,948 million was exchanged between Cambodia and Japan on a bilateral basis. In Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province, Prime Minister Hun Sen presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) container terminal as well as events commemorating the 137th anniversary of International Labor Day (May 1) and the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Japan diplomatic relations. The Prime Minister expressed his pride in the 70-year history of relations between Cambodia and Japan, noting that they had now progressed to a new level of comprehensive strategic collaboration. Draft Environmental and Natural Resources code gets nod The Council of Ministers adopted a draft Environmental and Natural Resources code to define its jurisdiction and facilitate the implementation of duties of the relevant ministries and institutions after nearly eight years in the making. The draft Code, which is composed of 12 chapters and 888 articles, will also expand the possibility of ministries, institutions and social milieus to further take part in environmental protection and natural resources and biodiversity management and preservation. It will be a strong regulatory framework for law enforcement officials, especially for those responsible for suppressing environmental and natural resources crime. (Source: Khmer Times)
Arbitration Council resolves 3,042 cases and helps 1.2 million people The Cambodian Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) established the Arbitration Council 20 years ago in 2003 as a free-standing institution to address labor disputes outside of the courts. By the end of 2022, 3,042 cases had been resolved, with a 75.16 percent success rate. According to the minister, the Council's mandate has subsequently been broadened to include handling individual issues in addition to the collective labor disputes it was first established to resolve. According to a press release, the Arbitration Council was founded by MLVT in 2003 as a tripartite mechanism for settling labor issues outside of court, and it has significantly contributed to upholding unity in the nation's commercial sector.
